Below, you’ll find a free crochet pattern to make a small daffodil motif – perfect for celebrating Spring – you can use motifs as decoration, for handmade cards, and it could even be made into a lovely brooch!

The size of your daffodil will vary based on the kind of yarn you use. For the pictured motif, I used Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat in Lemonade, Gold and Apple Green. The motif is about 6.5 cm tall and 5 cm wide across the flower when made using these yarns and a 1 mm hook.
Materials
Scheepjes Maxi Sweet Treat or your choice of yarn in: – Yellow – Darker Yellow / Orange – Green
1 mm hook (or hook size according to yarn label)
Scissors
Needle
Small amount of black or green felt for stem backing (optional but recommended)
Fabric Glue / Hot Glue (optional)

Ch – Chain
ST – Stitch
SL ST – Slip Stitch
DC – Double Crochet (UK)

DAFFODIL MOTIF PATTERN
PETALS - MAKE 6
In lighter yellow,
In light yellow,
Ch 11,
1: Starting in the second chain from the hook, 1 dc in next 9 sts. Work 3 dc in the last st. Continuing around the opposite side of the chain, work 7 dc, then 2 sl st (21)
2: Sl st in the next 2 st, then dc in the next 7 st. 2 dc in each of the next 2 st, then 8 dc, then 2 sl st (23)
3: Dc in the next st, ch 2, then dc in same st. 2 sl st, 7 dc (24 + ch sp) Leave remaining stitches unworked.
Sl st in the next st and FO, weave in ends.
FLOWER CENTRE
In darker yellow,
1: 6 dc in MR (6)
2: Inc in each st (12)
3: [1 dc, inc] x 6 (18)
4: In FLO, dc in each st (18)
5 – 6 (2 rnds): Dc in each st (18)
7: In BLO, work [1 dc, 1 tr] in each st (36)
Sl st in the next st and FO, weave in ends.
STEM
In green,
1: Ch 21, starting in the second ch from the hook, work 1 dc in the next 19 ch. Work 4 dc in the last ch. Continue working around the other side of the chain; 18 dc, 2 dc in next st (42)
Sl st in next st and FO. Weave in ends.
ASSEMBLY
Sew or glue the the petals in an overlapping ring as pictured (right)
Sew or glue the flower centre in place to cover the overlap.
Sew or glue the top of the stem to the back of the motif. Tip: Cut an oblong of felt the same shape as your stem and glue it to the back of the stem for extra support and to stop the stem curling. You could also use this to glue a brooch pin in place.
If desired, sparingly use orange / brown eyeshadow powder to darken the centre of the daffodil.
